Decided to try some winter kokanee fishing at Lake Stevens. Got on the water just before 10:00am and fished until 3:00pm. I threw most of what I had at them; flashers, pop gear, spoons, spinners, apex lures, mini hoochies and completely struck out. I didn't mark many fish and most of the other boats I saw out on the lake were hugging the shoreline looking for trout. I varied my fishing depth between 15 and 50 feet with most of my effort spent at 35 to 45 feet to match the thermocline. Heading back to the launch I saw a person boat about a 12" bow 20 yards off the dock line. The surface temp of the water was in the lower 40's and there were signs of a mini algae bloom on the SE side of the lake. I'll be back when the water warms up a bit and the kokes get back their appetite. Can anyone tell me what is inside the roped off section in the middle of the lake?

If you are referring to the roped off section closer to the North end of the lake, its an aireator (please excuse the spelling) they turn on to circulate the water in order to keep the algae bloom down. I have two co-workers that fished from Davis park on the dock Sunday. You are no doubt one of the boats they saw giving it a try. They told me it was cold and windy. They also didn't get a bite in a couple of hours so packed it up and went to try Blackman's lake. Tight Lines.

Thanks for the info. The aerator wasn't operating at the time but I'd like to see it in action. I wonder how it effects the natural thermocline when they have it running. I'll hit up the lake a few more times between now and the the summer months to check it out.

if your going to fish this lake at this time of the year your rarely going to catch fish trolling. this time of the year im normally fishng off davis with a worm under bobber or on bottom trolling isnt the best idea. For kokanee the best time to fish for them is when water temp is around 55 thats when they are up towards the top of the water colum and feeding although you can catch them in this colder water temp but ive always had best luck for them with about 55 water temp
