We ice fished at Evergreen Reservoir from about 1030 to 1430. The weather was sunny and warm, which caused some melting of the ice while we were there. The ice where we were fishing was about 6 inches thick, but there were a few areas of open water. We started out catching a few perch but then the bite died. The biggest perch was only 8 inches. We were using Swedish Pimples with worms or perch meat. We were the only ones fishing.

If you go here note that the road from 5 NW is blocked so you will have to turn off Hwy 281 on road 3NW to access the E end of the lake.

Bruce, thanks for the report. I was wondering if it would be safe to hit the ice for some walleye. Do you know if there is any way to get to the West end of the lake at this time?

G-Man,

The open water was on the S side of the lake, so perhaps walking along the N side would work. As far as driving, the 3NW road ends at the public access on the E end. One time I did drive from Burke Lake S past Evergreen and wound up at Hwy 281, but I was lost and couldn't tell you how the heck I did it. It's possible the road might be chained off there too. The Seattle Times said today they were catching walleyes there. I did try for a while with a !/4 oz jig and crawler, but I'm sure I was too shallow for them.

By the way, use Korkeez or some other kind of "ice gripper" for your boots. There was no snow on the ice and it was slipperier than owl poop.

Thanks again for the info Bruce! The West end of the lake has some really nice holes and boulders that the walleye like to call home. I've had good luck dropping a jig or sliding a crawler harness along the drop-offs. I'll have to get out there soon before the ice thins out too much.

the main road is closed at both ends of the quincy wild life refuge this time of the year. the only access to evergreen is from 3NW. be careful if you try to park at the gates to walk in. there tends to be alot of break-ins on the vehicles.
