Friend and I got bored on our day off work and decided to give old Green Lake a try simply because of it's extremely close proximity to me. To be honest we didn't really expect much but to enjoy the nice afternoon. Got to the lake at around 3pm and hit different docks until we settled on one with 2 other gentlemen fishing. They had been casting lures as well as using crawlers and powerbait to no avail. I'm not sure exactly what side of the lake this was (I'm terrible with orientation) but it was almost directly across the lake from the parking lot at the bleachers. We began to think our original estimate was correct but all of the sudden the bite was on fire for literally about 10 minutes. Gent to my left missed two strikes and the guy to my right nailed the first one he had resulting in what appeared to be a nice holdover planter bow that probably went about 16 inches but was quite fat. They were bottom fishing so I retied to follow suit and put on a little power egg cluster with some crawler scent and had a strike within 10 seconds of that setup being in that water. I hadn't even set the rod down so I was all over the hook set and brought in a bow of my own that went for around 14 or so and also fat. It wasn't so much that the fish was particularly amazing but it was a great thrill to realize that I could hit up green lake on a boring February day before any planting and still have a shot at decent fish. Plus it was in the company of good people on a beautiful day!
