Started around 9:30 this morning trolling a green wedding ring tipped with maggots, 00 dodger, 1 oz. lead, 100 feet back. Went down the east side fairly close to shore and got a 14" brown approx 500 yds down the lake. After trolling another hour with no luck, I started casting a 2" countdown rainbow rapala at the shoreline. Erratic and slow retrieves triggered several hits. Boated four more clone browns, 14" to 15", and a fatter 16" rainbow, no lunkers. Had numerous hits and shake offs with good fights in water that was probably in the mid thirty temps. Nice sunny 40 degree day with a little chop in the morning and almost flat by midday. The shoreline bite slowed around 1:30 when a little over cast came in. Trolled the rapala back to the launch with only one hit. Parking lot had 15 rigs with a couple of shore fishermen who sounded like they weren't having much luck. One guy was fly fishing in a float pontoon boat by the launch and he hadn't had any luck. I don't know how long he'd been on the water. I had tried fly fishing with a brown wolly bugger earlier in the day with no luck. Also threw a green spoon I'd had pretty good luck with on Rock before, but it only produced a couple of hits. Most of the boats must have headed up to the north end because I only saw four boats all day. I've enjoyed this undeveloped winter jewel for years and was hesitant about submitting a report, but I also enjoy reading other reports and decided to join in the info sharing!
