So I noticed the sun came out around 11am. I quickly hustled out the door w/ my gear after hearing there's large mouth in Green Lake. I'm from Austin Texas so this news was very refreshing. My bait caster is very dialed in and the wind was at my back so I was making very long casts. As soon as my 3rd cast hit the water, I see white in the distance and... bam! I was thinking, seriously!?!?! I brought the fish in with so much excitement that I had it's head out of the water the whole fight. Turns out it's some kind of trout I think? It was probably just over 2 Ibs and 16 Inches long based on the fact my boots are 13's. I've never caught a trout so it was cool. Great fighters. So I try another angel. My first cast resulted in what I thought was a nice bass following my rapala just a foot or 2 beneath( I had good polarized glasses on thankfully). So I stop the bait and see what the fish was going to do. It stopped. I gave the bait a hard jerk. The fish came closer and took a nibble. I tried to set the hook but I was too slow. I re casted 10 feet past the retreating ''bass''. It comes back at the bait with a lot of speed and bites. I miss the hook set again. This time the fish retreats slowly. I do the same thing once more and get the hook set! It took a solid 2-3 minutes of pulling my line off my spool to get it next to me on the dock. It was another freakin' trout except this one was much bigger. 3-3 1/2 ibs I'm guessing. I've never been so excited and livid at the same time. I'm struggling w/ the fish for a bit and it gets off the hook as some walkers are debating if it's a rainbow, brown and 2 or 3 ibs. Man, those things teeth are sharp. I had to learn that the hard way, ha. Maybe next time. I'm not convinced it was a Brown or a Rainbow? Tell me what you think after looking at the pic's I'll attach. My advice to anyone about my luck today.... If I ever catch any fish anywhere of good size... I fish the spot very thoroughly w/ many different tactics. I'm positive both fish were honing in on the same rock pile in 10-13 feet of water. So I only fished for 40 minutes, but it was exciting! Where are those bass????

That's a nice brown trout you have there, oversized mouth with big sharp pointy teeth. Generally the water needs to warm up quite a bit before the LM get in eating mode and are available to shore anglers. Right now they are probably hanging out with the carp.

Dont worry about the water in green lake there is a certain kind of harmless alge that grows in the water during the ummer and thats when you dont want to eat fish other wise. I grew up in seattle I went to school at roosevelt high school about 5 blocks from the lake fished it every morning before school and every day after school for 4 years we did water samplings and the water is cleaner the lake washington water by a large gap. for some reason no offence to the guy that says its dirty water but thats all discredited I am a fish biologist and a hatchery tech by trade,. oh and nice brown where were you fishing on the lake I have still to find a relible spot and two brings in the same area is rare. just to let you know as well. I have heard tales of there being some monster smallmouth bass and there are muskies and channel cats.

I caught them both on the south end of the lake. I have friends who eat trout out of the lake regularly and they have said nothing weird about it. Oh, except Mick has a smelly greenish glow to him. I'm sorry. Need coffee. I put the fish back. Good angeling.

obviously the owner of this sight does not get it. you make your money by people clicking to the advertisers. this sight gets worse and worse. it used to be good. I would tell you where to catch the big bass, after all i am the guy who caught the big one(in green lake) in fishing and hunting magazine. but mike wouldn't show it. ban my account and IP? i can go to any wifi and get a new ip, how simplistic. he sounds like the red chinese. anyway if you want to catch big bass in green lake fish big baits. like 6-8 inch swimbaits. i caught my fatty on a creek chub, old school g. but dont tell mike i told you cuz you need to pay to get that info. i want you guys who really want to see a lunker to ask mike to post the BIG BASS, he knows the one. i sent it to him. ban my IP what a joke, you better ban all starbucks wifi, goodluck emperor of china

The Bass in Green lake are easiest to catch at the "T" Dock where they rent the boats. I use ether nightcrawlers, jigs with a trailer or a chartruse and white spinnerbait. I've seen other guys use power grubs or worms off the bottom in just about any direction from right under the dock to as far as 15 feet from the dock. You can catch bass on all of these baits and lures.
The trout you caught is most likely a holdover Triploid. A hybrid Trout of some kind. I usually catch tons of them from May to July in Green lake on the West shore using bright pink powerbait off of a two foot leader and small treble hook.
