Thanks for info and pics, certainly answered my questions. Hope to get out there in the fall, hit the beaches for razors yesterday, if you ever get over here for razors let us know,We've got a spot where limiting out on big ones is a breeze. I would be up there this morning except my wife listened to the weather report and only focused on the 60mph wind prediction. (Dam that weatherman) Thanks for the ups on the pellet fly. That truly means a lot coming from such a skilled and respected Rufus Woods fisherman as you. I feel like a proud papa. I'm very happy that my New & Improved Trout Pellet fly worked for you. 3/28/2009 8:40:00 AMLewis, Good to hear you got the boat moving again. Been missing your weekly reports, good to have you back reporting. Sounds like the water temp is on the rise, which is a good thing. How far below the second set of pens did you catch that tagged fish? Just wondering how far they traveled in a short time, they released the fish from the second set of pens. As far as the tagged fish go, I don't believe that there is a reward drawing for them, the tagging is purely scientific, and a great idea I think. It would be really interesting to see the movements of the fish, their growth patterns when in the river and their life span. Can't wait to get out there at the end of april. Good Luck.

3/28/2009 9:49:00 AMThanks Loui, a very promising report. I'm going to be hitting up RW for the first time on Friday and Sat. (April 3 and 4) Got my kids in tow and hope to have a decent day. If anyone would like to share a fly/lure idea, I would be so grateful. Also, I hear talk of the second pends on the lower river. Is there an approximate location that anyone can give me. I'm starting to feel overwhelmed with how big Rufus is. Not sure what this trout pellet is but sounds exciting... If I could get each of my kids one fish, it would make there day and mine.

It's good to be able to share a trip again. When I was parking the truck after launching, one of the Park Employees was telling the wife (and most favored fishing partner) how dismal and the fishing was, and he hadn't been seeing any fish lately. Since we didn't fish the basin/launch area, we can't speak to that area. But we had a blast up lake. Wife and I enjoy the Rufus Woods for the outings and the availability of fish. Since we enjoy smoking fish, the RW tripps are as good as any in our immediate area. We watched the geese squabble over territory, and one Golden eagle was drying on a power pole while we fished by. Small waterfowl keep the entertainment going, so all in all, we have a good time there.

3/28/2009 10:58:00 AMBigD, Because of some "very" subtle attributes of the fly, I figured they would work in a slow bottom retrieve. AND they did.
It is amazing how high wind predictions can alter some persons outlook on a fishing trip (tongue in cheek)
It can and does get messy on the Ruuf with strong winds. Coming back down from the pens with high winds is no fun.

3/28/2009 11:12:00 AMHowdy HammerinHonkers , it's good to be yanking tripps again. I caught the tagged trout in the vicinity of Pump #1, that's a goodly distance from the pens. I was amazed they were that far down lake this soon. They were still fat, but didn't have any stomach contents when I cleaned them. When I call to report the tags, I'm going to ask if there is a chance they could/would add the info to a website so we could watch the progress. After sitting in the recliner rehashing the trip, Cindy a nd I noticed a pattern that we hadn't on the water. All the fish were caught over deeper water weeds. When looking at the bottom (clear water), we noticed it was bare down to the mud, rock or whatever. In the deeper water we would were pick up bits of weedy trash, and these areas were where we would get the hits. We did mark some suspended fish but couldn't get them to bite. As soon as the suns rays start warming to the point of new vegetation growth (hench, hatches and snail activity), the bit should get really active,

3/28/2009 11:24:00 AMBig Smooth, The pens are in what I consider the upper portion of the river, But others can elaborate on the pens location, I'm not well versed on that end of the water. Hope the weather is good when you come over, each week should see an increase in the water temp. On the aforementioned fly, It is a creation of BigD, PM him for details. Be up on the regulations regarding use of bait and artificial lures and the limits. Is's a possibility to entertain the company of the WDFG agents when fishing this body of water. All my chats with them has been polite and professional, even helpful on occasion. RW is a big body of water, and like any body of water there will be some areas more active than others, This is a great forum to ask questions about the fishing on a new body of water. PM me with info such as how you're rigged out, The fishing experience (reels used) of the kids, and your preferred method/technique of fishing. Also where you plan to launch.

I hope all who catch these tagged fish will call the CCT Nespelem Wa, the phone # listed on the tags is (509) 634-2110. It will strengthen the bond between the sport fishermen and the Folks who work with these releases, and show we who fish RW care about their research.
