AnglinArcher and I hot Rock lake early this morning at about 6:30. He took me on somewhat of a tour, showing me a lot of the hazards the lake has to offer. I marked as many as I could in my handheld GPS unit and I'll get them added to the lake map. Most of them are quite close to shore and when the water is lower you could lose your prop if you weren't careful.

We hit various shoreline areas along the north side of the lake, throwing spinners and Rapalas of various colors. We couldn't find any single lure or color that was perfect today so we just kept switching up. The key to success, for today at least, was to cast as close to shore as possible and retrieve just fast enough to get your blade spinning.

We both lost track of how many actually made it into the boat, but it was somewhere around 12. I think 2 of them were mine, and the rest his. I had at least 2 spit the hook while jumping a good foot out of the lake, and one spit the lure right into the boat when I got him close. Let me tell you, those browns sure do put up a fight, and they love to spin and dance too. The first picture is one of the smaller browns with really nice coloring. The other one is the second brown I caught. The last fish of the day was a very respectable rainbow somewhere in the 4 pound range. All fish were returned to the lake expect one.

There were quite a few anglers at the launch area that didn't appear to be doing very well. The water is getting murky, and the weather change was probably partly to blame. The forecast had called for rain by 7am continuing throughout the day, but we were blessed with party cloudy skies, no rain, and only a little bit of wind. We were off the water by about 1pm.
