It was a rough day on the I-82 ponds for the crappie. We fished 1,2,4, and 5 catching dozens of small fish. Maybe 6-8 inchers, but no quality fish today. We used slip bobbers with various Gulp jigs and we couldn't keep them off. There were TONS of shore fishermen too. A few guys were getting some little 'bows, but they were short too... Lucky for us, my friend lives in Outlook and has a private pond he keeps stocked with LMB, Crappie, and some huge Browns, so we went over there to take about 20 crappie for the frying pan. Nice, sunny day on the water. Tight lines.

Aaron42ash. Great report on crappie fishin' in the ponds. You are right that there's not much fish size in the I-82 pond area as far as crappie go. My biggest ever here was a little over 10 inches. Those gulp minnows work really well for me too. Hopefully, the fishing should pick up for panfish later in the month. Which pond was best for you? (Other than the private pond of course!) The only ponds the fishing was consistent were 4 and 5 although these were the most heavily fished because of the access. The only area I found any luck were along the dike. I would cast up parallel to the shore-line where I could see there was no bank access, and these areas held the most fish. Another spot to give a go would be along the dike on pond 5 on the south corner. There is a submerged "no trespassing" sign...I threw about 10 feet out from that and had hit after hit on the gulp minnow.

I usually tip a 1/32 oz jig with one. I go with the black/silver scented gulp, and sometimes the really shiny 3 1/2 inch drop shot gulps. They aren't scented, but they make up for it in color...
