What a difference two weeks makes! Today I was on the lake at 7am. I trolled an olive woolly bugger for about an hour where just two short weeks ago I knocked em dead with this exact fly. After an hour without even a strike, I changed to an orange Jameson Lake shrimp tied by my dad. After 20 minutes without a bite I changed to a black woolly worm with red tail, again no bites so I changed out one last time to a green Jameson Lake shrimp. Nothing yielded a bite so I changed over to a Mack’s Flash Lite and wedding ring tipped with green power bait and trolled that for maybe 20 minutes before changing to a green frog flat fish then a red with black bots flat fish, both not even triggering a nibble. My electronics marked lots of fish however they had moved to the east of the launch and were in about 22 feet of water from about 10 feet deep to the bottom. Water temp was 53.7 degrees F, no wind, and sunshine through a thin layer of clouds. Lots of boats on the water and at one point I counted 23 vehicles at the launch. The launch dock was full at 7am but by 10am when I left only 2 folks remained. About 40 minutes before leaving at 10:00 I spoke with a guy who had just caught a fish. He was kind enough to tell me he was trolling a frog and pearl Dicknite with a couple split shots. So I changed to that using a long 3 pound test leader and again no bites. I changed to a half and half Dicknite and nothing on that either. Poor fishing two days in a row. I’ll be at it again next weekend. Thank goodness the weather is finally improving.
