After deciding not to brave the crowds on other bigger lakes, I went to North Lake in Federal Way this morning. Have'nt been there in 10-12 yrs. Found the winds to be a little tricky in the pontoon boat but when things quieted down it became very fun to be out.
Started throwing/trolling Wolly Buggers without much success. I knew there were more options for fish, so I switched to the spinning rod and found there were plenty to be had. I decided on a lure I found last year, pinched the barbs (PM me and I'll give you a hint) and proceeded to catch and release for the next 5 hours.
In a rough estimate I would say that lure brought 30 fish to the boat, with all released but 5 for dinner. Many fish hit the lure with lots of quick action at times. Any fish that was hurt in the least or bloody got the stringer.
Had a great time. Seemed every boat on the lake was getting into fish, glad it was not too crowded.
Actually got 2 that were hold-overs (1) 12 1/2in. & (1) 14in. both had a slight red color in the belly and a nice pink to the meat.
Would definetely have to go back just to try some different fly's on a slighltly warmer day.
