I read Dave's earlier report, and I could swear we were at two different lakes!! We arrived at 9:30am and there were no boats at the boat launch. Got right in the lake, rowed out to our normal spot and dropped anchor. Had 2 - 3 fish on at the same time from 9:40 until 11am. Kept 5 of them and releasing about 8-10 others. Had 5-6 others on the line and lost them before getting them in the boat. Pulled up anchor at 11:15 am, as the young kids were restless. Counted maybe 25 boats on the lake, and a few fishing from shore. I remember the days when the shore was shoulder to shoulder people, boats were all over the lake and the boat launch was backed up for hundreds of yards. The flourescent yellow / green power eggs (from 2 - 3 years ago) worked like a champ, as always. One set of eggs lasted all morning..........I know...........we cheated the fish!!! The weather was beautiful and the other fishermen were well behaved and polite. I guess sleeping in must have been the ticket to a great day at Heart Lake.

Sounds like you arrived about an hour and 20 minutes after me. When I left I honestly counted 35 boats on the water and three arriving to launch as I drove away from the launch to secure my boat to the trailer. It was just a frustrating few hours for me is all. I did see folks catch fish using power bait. Bait fishing just isn't my favorite method. This is a great lake and I have had many good trips here. I just ran into a few inconsiderate people right off the bat and could hear several on shore who were loud as I trolled the lake which was annoying. Like I said, the experience I had was my fault. I should expect it on opening weekend.

In my report I didn't mention that at the launch, sitting right next to the cement launch pad was a nice gentleman who told me there were about 60 boats on the water opening day. I can't imagine that mess. Grin. I also noticed there was a city representative there wearing a reflective vest and a marked police unit drove through as I was approaching the launch to in my boat to leave. I also noticed they had 2 barricades there and some yellow caution tape attached to them that looked like they were used on the first day to prohibit folks from parking right on top of the launch area. The launch area also had new signs (at least I don’t remember them being there last season) reminding folks not to block the launch, and I saw the no combustion engine signs as well. I'm glad you had a good trip. I am sure I will have better experiences there in the near future. On my way out as I drove by Erie, I noticed there were lots of boats on that lake as well. At about 6:25 when I drove by Erie heading to Heart there were three boats on Erie, all at the deeper end of the lake.
