The BBs of BL decided to make another pilgrimage to Williams Lake to enjoy another Day of Fishing, because A) we still had fuel left from our fishing excursion on Opening Day; B) still had food left, too; C) our wives said it was okay; D) we declared Monday a Mental Health Holiday from work---
Despite the lousy weather looming, we dunked the dreadnought into the (then) still waters at 6:15 a.m. There were just two vehicles in the Public Launch parking lot at that time. We headed out from the launch, guiding to STARBOARD and began trolling after passing by the shallow reeds.
The fish were sneakier today; perhaps the smarter fish escaped the Opening Day invasion and were demonstrating their survival skills. It took longer to limit-out today, further evidence of a natural law that fishermen everywhere learn about the hard way. And as per BBs of BL Tradition, I snagged the bottom with one of my favorite (and successful!) homemade spinner baits--- and had to leave it. As we departed the scene, I SWEAR I heard a fish laughing.
The Other Guy in the Boat caught the biggest fish of the day, but it was I, who got his picture taken, holding his 15" trout for all to see…
About midway through our fishing day the wind kicked-up, blowing in from the East, and scuffing up the lake surface. Only the hardiest ospreys were flying, grabbing their grub or screaming at us to quit staring at them. No matter what you may think of the ospreys, they are so much more elegant than those turkey buzzards who hang around the basalt cliffs around the lake.
The wind made fishing just a bit more interesting, especially when turning the boat sideways to complete a turn.
After limiting-out, we returned to the Public Launch to see it was about half-full of vehicles whose owners were enjoying An Extra Day at the Lake.
Oh! That Public restroom. It has an “air” about it…
Thanks WDFW.
