I used to go to this park in Madenbaur Bay just to have a stroll or watch people fish on the dock. I seldom fish there because there seems to have only yellow perch, little ones like 5" or 6", not even bass. A couple of weeks ago my son asked me to take him to go fishing, so I took him to this park because it's the nearest place and I didn't think there will be any fish. That day he caught an 8" trout (can't tell which kind, maybe brown trout?) and I caught a 13" cutthroat. I took it home, the meat was all pink, very yummy. Since then, we went there a few more times. We caught another two 8" trout and almost landed a 12" one. Yesterday I got to talk with a gentleman who lives by the Bay, he said when he and his son fished from the dock, they got only perch too, maybe a couple of bass or so, for all the 20 years they've been there! This coincides with my observation/experiences too --- there are only perch, no bass, no trout, at least when it comes to this park, this dock. But this year, for some mysterious reason, trout are here, and so far I didn't see any sign of perch! Weird. Anybody has any theory?

When the water is cold the rainbows will be in the shallows of the lake looking for food. The spiny rays however head for the depths to find the thermocline and hang out until the water warms and the sun kicks off the growing season for the aquatic plants. You'll find that you can catch trout from most docks during the winter months on Lake Washington.

Thanks for the info, G-Man. But I'd rather consider myself extremely lucky, that makes me feel much better. :-) Today I got another 8" trout, I was happy. During the past winter, I've spent some time on another park dock, but never had any luck. I guess this place is better for trout, at least in the spring.

I was using gulp, the worm-like brownish artificial bait. Hack, I never gave it much about what kind of bait I use, I always believe they'd bite anything --- if they want, that is. Even bare hooks caught me some fish. If they don't want to bite, even filet mignon won't do any good. :-)

i fished at that dock a few times last year.. we only caught one bass out of the several times we visited the park.. my most recent trip to the park was around mid april of this year. i used berkley power worm and a swim bait noneofwhich atracted any fish, my belief is that fish particularly trout are very picky in wat they bite and they dont bite very often.. so if you can please post up a picture of the bait you used to give me a presice visual of wat these trout are attracted to.
