Beehive Reservoir or should I say (CHELAN COUNTY DUMP) My wife had to work today so I made a quick trip up to Beehive Reservoir to check out this small lake. Me and my dog spent a couple of hours this afternoon trying out different spinners and flies (All Barbless). I caught and released several small planters. I caught a couple on an olive woolly bugger, a couple on a black woolly bugger, one on a single hook black super rooster tail, one on a small single hook silver spoon , and even one on a Trout pellet fly. I counted over a hundred people in and around the lake today. Mostly families with young children which is a very good thing. The bad thing is that this place looks like a city dump. After fishing for a couple of hours I decided I just couldn’t take the mess anymore. I walked back to my truck with plans of grabbing a couple of large lawn & garden trash bags that I keep in the glove box for emergencies. On the way back to my truck my dog gave out a loud yelp to let me know about a large treble hook attached to about 50’ of monofilament buried in her front paw. After extricating my dog from the treble hook and wad of mono (Now completely PO’ed) I made it back to my truck and started picking up trash. I was able to fill both large (40 gal) trash bags within 100' of my pickup. It will be along time before I make it back to Beehive Reservoir unless I do it with a volunteer trash pick up crew.

On a side note: I found out today that you can remove a hook from a dogs paw the same way you remove a hook from a persons hand by using about two feet of heavy braided line.

Thanks BD for picking up the trash. That's one thing that lights me up when I'm out fishing and I see all the garbage and crap people throw down without even a second thought. Especially people breaking bottles. I've already had 3 cut paws this season on my dog. Last I heard Beehive hadn't been stocked, so it sounds like they must have dumped a load of dinks in there if that many were fishing.

Hey afk, it’s called the "String-Yank Technique" and you can see how to do it at this web page:

I've been lucky and so far and only had to use the technique on other fishermen & one woman and now my dog. The technique is very easy and very effective although I hope you never have to use it. Good luck out there.

Big D. sadly down here in my neck of the woods, around the I-82 ponds south of Yakima, it looks like some of the Border areas in Texas near the Rio Grande. Not to single out anyone, but up here things are pretty bad with trash...and I wish I could mention who I catch doing the littering. (Modelo and Corona bottles, lime and chile chip bags, baby diapers, lime skins...)I do the same by picking up trash all the time, and I do know the Gamies really appreciate what people like you do for the outdoors.
