Hit American Lake for the first time ever. Got there around 2:30, wow, what a ton of boats, in and out, finally got through and tossed in the 12' Smokercraft, and hurried to get out of harms way. Never being there, the only place I had heard of was Little American, but opted to go straight across lake to Veteran's home first. 20 minutes into the day, at around 3:30, my future son in law, Noah, who is 11, caught his first trout ever. He was jazzed so I promised him that I would post the pic. We fished for 3 hours and caught 5 plants, releasing all but his first fish ever, for photo sake, plus the fact that the fish inhaled the worm.
We got all fish trolling. I used a thing that looked like a wedding ring, but not sure what it is called, with a worm and green powerbait, while Noah (who ended up with two trout), used a silver medium sized Hildebrant with a worm and orange powerbait.
Good times, close to home, warm sun and a kid catching his first fish.

Hey, if you ever want me to show you some of the hot spots on American, I would be more than happy to. I've spent a lot of time on that lake, and know most of the spots that are most productive. There are some very big fish in there, but it sometimes takes some perseverance to find which spot they're hanging out at . Many times, the only thing you get trolling on that lake are the little guys, so you have to seek out the deeper structure to find the monsters. I live over on the west side of the lake, so I will be spending a lot of time out there. Hope to run into you sometime(not literally...).

Hey f1sh1nf00l, wow, that was hard to type. I will take you up on that. The reasons that I have kind of turned to American, is that Riffe is a long drive, and I have heard stories that American has some large fish in it. I went there figuring that I may not catch a fish, and I am good with that, as long as I have a chance for the big one. I also want to learn the lake because I sort of want to figure out how to catch a bass, and not by fluke, either, but by the way bass are meant to be caught. Are we allowed to post e-mail addresses on here? If so, I will give you mine. I have been laid off for some time and just figure if the weather is decent, I am going fishing.

I don't know what the official policy on putting your email addy in posts is, but I would assume that it would be up to the poster, whether or not they want their email posted in a public place. I dont really care about that so I'll give you mine. As far as the bass go, I'm thinkin that the spawn fishing should be starting soon, it's already pretty late. I didn't see any signs of spawning beds on Saturday, but I was in a row boat and didn't get a chance to check all the spots. Spawn fishing is probably one of the easiest times to catch bass, because you can see where the beds are, and you can use very simple tactics to get them. Hopefully I will have a boat again soon so I can more easily get back into the good spots.
