Water temp. was NOT 70 degrees, prob. closer to 55. Bob

Water temp at Long Lake in Thurston was 68 on Saturday afternoon. We had three people from our group check it. Granted, that was surface temp but I haven't seen many lakes in Thurston in the mid 50s for a few weeks now.

Brett - a lot of time those big bass will be exactly where you caught the little ones. The little ones are faster and more aggressive, so they get to the bait fastest. If you catch a little one, throw back to the exact same spot. The little ones might hit it again, and if they do, keep hitting that spot. Eventually a big bruiser might get it in gear and come grab what you're offering. Another way to entire a bigger bite is to throw a bigger bait - keep a rod ready with a 9" plastic worm and toss it right into the area where little ones are tearing you up. Those big ones might just be sitting low and hanging out, and they'll often pick a 9" worm over a 3" bait fish presentation. Keep at it and you'll be boating your share of toads before you know it :)

well it was a guess on the temp but i think we are going back there today so ill get back to you guys on that. Thanks AaronE, i was having fun catching the little ones but would be nice to catch some bruisers!

I'm sure the temp was not 70, but close to it. I was there last Sunday when the water temp got to 67. Didn't pick up any big ones (biggest being about 2.3 lbs), but weightless green 5" senkos wacky rigged where the ticket around docks.

were you fishing the 5mph part of the lake or the open part of the lake?
