We were out at Lake Chelan just a couple of miles from the State Park off the rocks from the shore. I was using a silver shallow rapala w/ a black head. I seen a few smallmouths (youngens) swimming by. The temperature was about 80 degrees and sky was clear. So i decided to play a little bit with the small guys and every cast I would either catch one or have a chaser. I could have done that all day! For about 1/2 an hour I tried a brown spotted plastic worm with a flourecent green tail at the bottom and I didn't even get a bit or even a nibble. The next day, we went to the last dock at the state park and I saw more smallmouth bass out there. So I through the same thing and caught a few more smallmouths and also a little rainbow. Earlier, my wife and my cousin were trying pink/green/yellow (w/sparkles) mallow baits but not even a nibble. Overall, it was a good trip for fishing even though I didn't catch any "Lunkers." but I didn't do to bad for my first time on that lake. Happy fishinng

nic...I have done really well on the smallmouth in Lake Chelan, including some pre spawn smallies over 4 lbs. I like to throw 3" smoke salt and pepper or S/P clear Kalin's grubs on an 1/8th oz jighead, tail rigged up for maximum swimming action. I also use a smoke or pumpkin double tail about 2" to 3" long for finicky fish on a 1/16th oz black jighead with yellow eye. Watermelon/pearl Berkley Gulp 3" minnows fished on a 1/16th oz leadhead catch a lot of smallies for me too. I think that they resemble peamouth chubs, a favorite food for the bass in Lake Chelan. And one of my favorite baits is a robo worm "Gobi" in green/pumpkin pearl belly because it looks like a mottled Sculpin, another favorite food for the bass. The smallmouths were nothing really to brag about but they were roughly 3 - 4" just saw them swimming to the top so I figured why not.
