Wow !, What a beautiful Lake, sunshine and big white clouds.

Barb and I left Asotin at 5:00am, and arrived at Rock Lake at about 8:00am. it was breezy when we left and thought it would probably be the same on the lake, and it was, the wind was blowing uplake, so there was only a ripple on the water at the launch. After checking out the launching options, we put the boat in for a very easy launch ( see photo #2), in and out with a jetboat is usually very easy, because you can power off and on with lots of power.

We decided to troll due to the wind, there were whitecaps visable looking uplake, and we did not want to get blown into the rocks casting into the shore line, this is our first trip to the lake and is pretty much a scouting and learning expedition.

We were long lining with the plugs over deep water 100'+ for about an hour, did not touch a fish, moved in closer to shore and my rod went down, a chrome bright Rainbow boiled out of the water four or five times and then the line went limp and he was gone, when I reeled the line in the clip was wide open and the plug gone, don't know wheather the Bow opened it on the strike, or I failed to close it properly, maybe I had set the drag too tight, probably all of the above. This is the only Rainbow we had on all day.

The next take down was Barb's rod and she was into a nice Brown, her first one ( see photo #1), these Browns are gorgeous, they look dark in the water, but are really colorful when you get them out. This one is around five pounds, we didn't weigh or measure any of the Browns, and only kept this one, the rest were released to catch again, I'm getting some Steelhead ready to smoke and thought this one would be pretty good smoked. Did not keep track of the number of Browns we caught, but it was a great day, even with the wind blowing.

This boat has a TR-1 Autopilot on the 8 hp Honda, and this makes it very easy to control the boat in the wind since it does all the work keeping the boat streight while we fish and land fish, if anyone out there has been thinking about getting one, get it, you will never be sorry.

We pulled out around 3:00pm more than likely just before the hot evening bite, but we wanted to drive over to Sprauge Lake an check out Four Seasons Campground.

This turned out to be a very enjoyable fishing trip, Rock Lake is A+, trophy fish and so very beautiful, we will be returning soon.

Hey 5lbs nice fish. Your photos never showed up. Ever since they have changed this site around to new stuff no one has been having good luck posting photos and i am not sure y that is, but it is shitty becasue pictures are nice to look at. Maybe they should change the site back to its original manner. Anyhow, you say you were trolling deep with plugs>? Like you mean countdown rapallas or something? stay safe out there.

What are the specs on your boat?

Hi Aaron, Thanks for posting the pictures. The boat is a 21' Northwest Jet Boat "signature" model, equipped with a 454ci fuel injected Chevy engine that puts out 350hp. the jet pump is a single stage 212 Hamilton, it is a good all around boat.

We use it mostly for steelhead fishing in Hell's Canyon, where our home is located. Some of our favorite steelhead holes are quite a ways up the Snake River and we have to go over a lot of white water to get to them, could not do it with a prop, to much shallow water, and a lot big rocks.
