Wow, tonight was a blast on Bitter lake. I launched the tube at about 6:45 pm. I usually go with small grub plastics trolled behind the tube. This time I went with 5" Senkos which I would cast over to the edge of the lilly pads, wait a full minute, and then bring it back to me with only a couple of cranks of the reel at a time. Besides catching 3 small rock bass, I caught 2 LMB. The first was about 1.5 lb, the second maybe 2- 2.5 lb. My new scale didn't have a battery. This isn't the hottest lmb lake for big fish, and considering I fish it ALL THE TIME, I have only caught two other largies on the lake.
I found success when I did things completly different than usual. Instead of the slow troll of the grub, I threw the large Senko all the way to about 2' from shore. After a short pause, I gave it one twitch, and bam! fish on. The first time the fish came off... and I became snagged so I had to go over the pads and get my senko. Since disturbing the area I went away for about 5 minutes... I then came back and threw it right on the same spot, and BAM there it was again, and I boated it. The other fish also came from very close to shore. Great time.

A fave lake of mine. I worked a few blocks away for a few years. Float a crawler (just the weight ot the swivel, hook and worm) just off the bottom and drift witht the tube there are some nice sized fish in that lake. =)

Hey Chris,

Nice to see a report from you this extended holiday weekend. Every time I read your reports it brings back memories of growing up in Shoreline and fishing/swimming at the lakes you fish including Bitter. I just got back from Lake McMurray this morning where I limited on 12 to 13 inch rainbows in just under an hour and a half. It was my third trip out this extended weekend and I was fortunate to limit all three trips. Anyway, great report and good to see you out there fishing our old childhood stomping grounds. Take care.
