I'm new to bass fishing and fishing Lake Sammamish, so I hired Dave Watkins for a day of instruction. I figured this would save me, oh about a year or so of messing around, and a ton of money in wasted tackle. Dave's a great guy and I learned TONS. His boat ain't too shabby, either. :-)
So, we hit the water at 6:30 am. Dave taught me about the different lures, rods, reels, etc., and their applications and then we set off to look for smallmouth beds. We fished beds all around the lake much of the day, taking interludes to try other techniques, mostly so that I could learn them. But the most productive fishing was the bed fishing (though Dave did catch one smallie by using a spinnerbait).
All in all I caught 5 nice-sized bass, ~ 3lbs. Definitely a terrific experience.
Now it's up to me to teach my 11 year old boy a thing or two!
