My boys and I arrived late to Beaver lake--around 11:30. They wanted trout, so that's what we were after. After trolling for a bit with Dick Nites and Wedding Rings, we switched one to an egg-sucking leach patter (red egg). We caught 2 12 inch trout off that (the chartruse egg-sucker didn't do anything), both on the west side of the lake. Seeking variety, we looked for bluegill for a bit and caught 1 on a worm before heading back in. My youngest decided to practice casting while we headed to the lauch and much to his surprise caught a SMB right in the middle of the late (he had a curly tail grub on at that time). Beautiful lake and great day on the water--would have been a 4 or 5 in the fun factor, 3 on the catch factor.

A smallie? Nice! From time to time I see reports about smallies in Beaver (including a guy whose fishing journal said he caught one in 1983), but I've never had the good fortune to catch one or see one caught there.

I think smallie, but then again I wouldn't trust my fish identification skills too far.
