This is no cakewalk. I was going to hike into Litchenwasser w/ a buddy but he bailed out to play golf. The only reason why I attempted this adventure solo was because I still had cell phone service. First off this is about 1000ft + rise in 1.5 mile so do the math. Found a couple logs downed about 200 yards from the first road cut-back crossed the river and started up. I searched for the fisherman trail w/o much luck. I decided to stick near the outlet creek and go straight up. The terrain was hell - wet, slick, icy snow, and at times dangerous. Almost turned around a couple times but got past the worst of the rise and arrived at the lake in about 1:30. To my dismay the lake was frozen over but yet a beautiful sight. T-storms rolled in w/ rain, so I made a fire, got warm, and finally the sky opened and the sun came out about an hour later. Decided to throw a line in the swimming pool sized area free of ice near the outlet. Tried some eggs and 2nd cast - fish on. 11 inch fighting cutt! Took the bait deep so this guy became dinner. Removed all the barbs off my hook and fished about another hour catching two more. Not bad considering only %2 of the lake was exposed. The weather came in again so I bailed out. With the rain, the hike down was very dangerous! I found trail markers however they seemed to lead to the most vertical and rocky terrain on the ridge. I will come back in July! I'm curious, from my detailed map it would seem easier to reach the lake from the south and park at the third cut-back - probably an easier 750ft rise in. Any comments?
