I made a trip over to Lake Ozette. This is a very remote lake located on the coast, just South of Neah bay. It is the 3rd largest lake in the state, yet most people haven't heard of it. The lake falls under the fishing regs. of the Olympic National Park. Selective fisheries, and a short season.
We got there about 2:00 pm, fished until nearly dark. We trolled wedding rings behind Les Davis pop gear. trolled flies, woolly buggers. Threw Vibrax spinners, silver or gold.
Caught 1 Kokanee, very bright. at least 4 cutts. to the boat, and lost another 3 or 4. Got into a mess of Northern Pike Minnows (Squawfish) Got them on a sinking fly. I targeted bass within some beautiful reeds, with no luck. The fish were rather small though, and fairly skinny. Just bought a crawfish trap off of A9 from the forum,, didn't get us any crawfish,, but it did score us 3 Pike Minnows, LOL
Coolest part of the day was using my new FISHTV underwater camera. That thing is COOL! Once that camera gets near the bottom, it's awesome. You are looking at all the structure, logs, etc. and the fish were all up in the screen.
We travelled down the lake between 4-5 miles one day and got out on the islands and explored stuff. There are only about 8-10 very rugged type cabins on the entire lake. I think they are probably grandfathered in due to homesteading from many years/families back.
Very exciting and scary stuff in that if your motor fails there are no roads or trails to civilization!
(we had a backup) I recommend this place for a unique experience.

Nice report. I am from Forks and have never, ever been to Ozette, at for relaxation, worked near there once back when I logged. I was wanting to see a report on this lake and I wish that you would have gotten into some LMB as I have heard that they are in there.
Anyway, awesome report.

I have fished this big lake from a canoe a few times. Caught lots of yellow perch and a few squawfish. Tried for bass but struck out. Nice little campground there.

Cool Lake... I love going out there to fish... I've caught several largemouth there in July... mostly smaller bass though. The road is really long to get there and it's easy to fish the Hoko River and catch beautiful cutthroat in there and not make it out to the lake. The lake has good perch fishing in it and there are some nice trout in there. In the Fall and Winter the Hoko is a great stream for Steelhead. Kill all of the Squawfish.... they are bad news!

Good report ! Like Bob J I also went for bass with no luck. Caught plenty of NPM's !!

hows the boat launch? will it handle a 20' boat? I always wanted to fish this lake!
