Took the wife and kids to Downs to celebrate Father's Day a day early. I had never fished Downs, but had read it was a good place to take young kids (mine are 2 and 3). Anyway, talked to the proprietor of the little store, Lee I believe his name was and he suggested renting a row boat, which we did. $16 dollars later we were on the lake. Lee suggested just letting some line out with a hook and worm and letting the wind drift you along. That didn't work too well right in front of the resort area so we started heading up towards the NE corner of the lake (through the lillypads). As soon as we got into the path through the pads we had a fish on (probably about a 7 inch perch). I thought maybe we'd found a school so we dropped anchor and fished there a little bit but only managed one more (a spinyray of somesort; bluegill I think). So while we were there a couple guys motored by and mentioned that they were killing the rainbows at the upper end just drifting worms. So we pulled anchor and headed up that way. They weren't kidding. We'd only just got into position when "bang" fish on. Turned out to be a nice deep 14" rainbow (my 2 year old had a blast reeling it in). Long story short we caught 3 more and lost probably that many before we headed back in. Plan on eatting them tonight. Only hiccup we had was finding our way back through the pads to the resort (lost our path somehow before finding it again).
