My son & I decided to hit Beaver on Father's Day morning to try out a new fly my boss had given me. Nothing on the way up the lake but on our return trip, my son hooked into about a 12" rainbow. Thinking we were going to have a good day (as my boss assured me this was a killer fly) & we could have a BBQ that afternoon, we decided to keep the fish. Little did we know, this was going to be our only fish of the day.
After about hrs of nothing, we decided to start heading back to the boat launch & we saw another boat land a fish and try to release it. As soon as the fish hit the water, a bald eagle came out of nowhere & tried to snatch it up. Missing the catch, he flew off to a cedar tree along the lake.
After watching this, my son decided that one fish wasn't going to do us much good and thought he might try feeding the eagle. He threw the fish about 20' away from the boat & we watched the eagle swoop down, miss on his first pass, pick it up on the second & then fly away. Being that close to an amazing bird was worth the trip.
Although the fishing was at best poor, this will be a Father's Day we'll both remember.
