After reading the OutdoorChris report I had to get on the Rufus Trout. Hit the water at noon as 3 boats were pulling out of the water. They all had limits of 4+lb trout but only one over 7lbs. I knew we were in for a good day. We sarted at the upper pens and the flow was as powerful as it gets. We drifted jigs, flys and even tried the fail safe bait with no success. We buzzed down stream to my (Honey Hole) that was not very sweet this day. After about an hour of hard fishing and not one bite the wind picked up. The white cap wind was so strong it actually blew us upstream against a ragging current. 4 hours later we pulled the boat out of the water with our tails between our legs just shaking our heads. Last week at the Pend Oreille I faced defeat also. The fish God's are definetely humbling me!

Sorry you didn't get hooked up. There's always next time. Did you have the opportunity to throw a Trout Pellet Fly at them? If not…I know where you can get some and I've heard that that they come with a small bottle of skunk repellent.

But, even though you didn't get any fish, always remember ......The worst day fishing is always better than the best day at work!! At the pens for weeks the current has been picking up to levels I have never seen before, although thats not to say that others have seen the water current so fast, and because of that we have been leaving the pens around 12 or so...its just too hard to handle a big fish and try to fight it amongst the cables and lines there. The level of the water on the upper parts has been going up as much as almost 3 feet in a few hours! Then look on the bright side......the next time you fish RW's, it can't get any worse!!

ODC....I have had some great days on Rufus this year. One slow day is no big deal.
