This is a report for Fourmile Lake in Klamath County Oregon, about midway between Medfor and Klamath Falls

Arrived early Sunday. Lovely morning, not a cloud in the sky and a lake surface like polished glass. First thing I noticed was the mosquitoes, as numerous as they were fierce. Fortunately, I had been warned in advance and was well prepared with two kinds of mosquito repellant.

The boat launch, if you could call it that, was just a sandy space between two piles of driftwood, no trouble for my little inflatable, but woe unto he who tries to launch a Duckworth here

Fourmile lake's a lovely spot, with a spectacular view of Mount McLoughlin, overlooking the water. Once I was out on the lake, the mosquitoes abated, but only somewhat. It was warm too; I only needed a light windbreaker, and by 9:00 even that was unnecessary

I had come here because I wanted to catch my first Mack...and the ODFW report said they were hitting on worms floated off the bottom at about 30', not very big, but hungry.

After anchoring off a little peninsula on the east side of the the lake, it took me a while before I hooked my first fish. I had been using a leader that was a mite too short, apparently. Lengthening it out to 4' is what did the trick. My fisr fist was only a little guy, 12' if that, but still the first Mack I ever caught. Another bigger Mack 16' soon followed, and then a third.

Interesting fish...they would fight fiercely at first, but then tire themselves out fairly quick, much more so than a brown or a bow.

My fourth fish turned out to be surprise. I though he was another mack, but on boating him, he turned out to be a nice sized brookie instead.

The last fish turned out to be a 'bow. Had such a distended belly, I thought at first it must be a female, full of roe. On cleaning this fish however, I discovered that such was not the case, he'd been gorging on nymphs of some kind, so had one of the Macks, but not to the degree this rainbow had been chewing down.

About 1 in the afternoon, the wind kicked up, and by the time I got back to the ramp, about 2, it was blowing whitecaps. Lucky I got that last fish when I did.

All in all, I rate this day a 4.
