Launched at 4:07am as the black sky started turning blue. As we blasted towards Tum Tum we got to watch a Bald eagle and an Osprey fight over a snake the Eagle had in it's talons. Very Cool-Eagle kept it's breakfast! First cast hit the water at 4:23am and first fish was in the boat at 4:31am. My buddy and I both caught fish consistently for the first 3 hours of morning but I was fortunate enough to boat all the picture worthy fish. My friend did have a monster break him off fairly rapidly, assumed a Pike but could have been a huge bass. By 9:00am the wakeboarders, jetskis, and multiple fishing boats were on the water. So, we pulled the boat out and headed home for a day of Honey-Do's! As always every fish over 12inches are release by me but we did take home 1 SM and a Yellow Perch. Does anybody know if there is a tournament today? There were more bass boats on the water by 7:00am than I have seen in a long time. It is either a tournament day or everybody is reading MattG's reports and wanted their turn! LOL! Great reports Matt....nice to see you and your son still catching quality fish.

Scott. Sounds like a great time. I would love my kids to hook into a pike. But have yet to boat one yet out of Lake Spokane. I would guess not many in our lake yet. Are your hitting the pads across from Tum Tum?
Look forward to seeing your pictures. Good Fishing. Matt G.

Matt- The Pike popuIation is still low but they are here and gaining momentum. I got 3 last year and I know of 2 caught this year. I am curious if the Pike will be beneficial or detremantal to our game fish population. They are a blast to catch. I reposted the pics so they should be up soon. We fished the first steep bank past Willow Bay today and the pads before Tum Tum. Take Care.

Hey guys. I would love to see a Pike fishery really get going in Long Lake. They would certainly knock the crap out of the squaw fish, woops, pike minnow, population. I launched out of the Spokane house launch one day earlier in the year and when I got back, there were 27 pike minnows lined up on the boat ramp. I take my hat off to the guy that removed those fish from the lake but he could have disposed of them in a little different manner. I have never managed to hook a pike in Long Lake but if the population was to take off I would certainly spend more time there. Other than a few Bucket Biologists doing some under cover work, I don't think we will ever see them get planted there. I believe the state would frown on unauthorized planting, and I certainly wouldn't want to encourage unlawful activities. :) Scott I look forward to seeing the photos, thanks for the report. I may be heading out to Long next weekend. Happy Fishing

Thanks Aaron... AJ's Dad- I know thw Pike love to eat the tench but how much of their diet will be gamefish? I think the Pike come out of Cour De Alene because I have heard of several caught on the river. They are definetely a great sport fish. I still havent gotten on any this year.....maybe I will have to take you up on your offer to fish Idaho with you. Have you been back on the Pend Oreille lately?

Nice fish Scott. We need more Pike in Long Lake like we need another bank bailout. They are there because they get washed out of CDA. They have not done well in the lake because there isn't enough good spawning habitat for them.

Desert Creek, I am not a big fan of the bank bailouts but if the pike population took off in Long Lake, I would be a happy camper. Have you ever had a good day pike fishing? I love catching bass but there is something about the fast moving big fish potential of pike fishing that has me hooked. I am not a fisheries biologist by any means but the water and structure I see at Long Lake is very much like the waters where I spend most of my time hunting pike. I hear pike like to attach there eggs to downed trees and logs and there are plenty of those at Long. Everybody has there favorite tergeted species but fo me it's a love affair with the Esox lucius, (Northern Pike). I have seen several nice posts of the bass you catch at Long. I wouldn't mind trading a day and fishing with you some time. One day at Long and one pike fishing at my favorite spot. Happy fishing
