Didn't launch until almost 9am and was off the water by 4pm on 7-17-09. Had action today, but nothing of any size, in fact nothing over 2.5lbs! It seemed as though the smaller fish were shallow today and I couldn't find anything beyond 15' deep??
From Donovan launch I headed south, worked all the way down to Geneva Point and back. I would find pockets of fish here and there, and could catch multiple 1-1.5lbers in the same spot. The bass seemed to be concentrated around weed beds in 8-10 feet of water and the best technique for me was a floating jerkbait in chrome and black retrieved in a jerk jerk pause manner. I caught 3 in 5 cast doing this and didn't move the boat an inch. If you hooked one and looked you could see others following it to the boat, cast right back in and whack!
I caught fish on a spinnerbait, green grubs, jerkbaits, and crankbaits, just no lunkers and nothing consistent. I didn't take a pic of the 2.5 because it was early and I thought I would do better, I love fishing this lake when it's high and bright, oh well.
Water temps were 70*-72* and there was alot of loose grass floating around, I assume from boat traffic, and there was also a decent green stain to the water....algae??
My thinking is the larger fish were suspended out over deeper water, I just ran out of search time.
