Had some time in the afternoon with the boy so I decided today was the day for him to catch his first fish. He's a two year old. After thinking about what lake would have the best potential for him to catch something, I decided on Square Lake in Kitsap near Port Orchard. We needed a small lake with shore access that offered an easy catch to keep his intrest. I figured if I couldn't get him hooked up to something within 20min. his attention would be gone.
We spent the morning getting ready and excited about our trip. We went to PetSmart for some mealworms and then we were off. We arrived at the lake around 11:00 and got set up by the swimming area. I saw many small bass and bluegill and within 10 min. Titus hooked into and was reeling in his first fish ever! He was very excited and hooked from this point on. After that fish another father/son team came out from the woods trail with a stringer of bluegill. I asked how it was down the trail and the dad told me ever cast was a nice one. So we packed up our gear and headed to the open spot near the beaver dam. WOW! Great fishing and Titus hooked into a big one. And this was even after those other two caght a ton and took them out.
This is the perfect lake for a kids first fishing experience. Very open area for a picnic and playing, clean shoreline, open areas in the vegatation that hold lots of bluegill and there is plenty of shade. I recommend this lake for anyone with a kid ready to fish.
My boy had a great day and is already talking about the next trip.

The fish you have in hand next to Super Man is a very interesting looking fish! If I didn't know any better I would say it was a cross between a bluegill and a black Crappie. Did the rest of the bluegill look that way too???
