Made my trip to RW out by chelan last weekend and I didnt plan it very well, thought where we'd be camped would be where the pens were but it wasnt and they were 25 miles up the resivour.
Still had a blast in the 12' aluminum with the electric troller right by Chief Joseph dam, smallest trout I caught was bigger then any trout I caught before.
even caught a 25" walleye. bite wasnt on till monday morning for us, and realy made it hard to leave lol. If I hadnt spent all my money in the bar to beat the 110 degree heat in the day time I would have made it at least a 5 day trip. Beatiful scenery, lots of wildlife just too dam hot.
All my action was from trolling a 6" plastis dual fin maks setup with double whammy wedding ring and berkley plastic worms about 200' out real slow with a 1 oz sliding weight im guessing 100' down. well worth the 4 & 1/2 hour drive from Puyallup

Hey Mike, I'm glad to finally see your report. I was kinda worried about you and your buddy after our phone call. I'm happy that you finally got into some fish. I'm starting to believe more and more it's all about the water flows on Rufus Woods. We'll have to hook up when the weather cools some and I'll give you a tour of the river. Great photo by the way...

Yeah man thanks alot for the pointers and puttin up with my shitty cell service lol
I will definately be making the trip again, just got myself back into some steady work so im gonna look for a cheap boat since the one I took was borrowed and maybe a 10 horse motor. Maybe find a spot by the pens to launch or maybe the 10 horse will motor me up there within a cpl hours never know. Anywho...thanks again and will definately be looking you up if i get itchy for big fish, already thinking about lake chelan now lol

Mike, there's a launch right outside of Nespelem that is right between the first set and second set of pens. It's a little tough to find the first time but you'll see it on a good map and it's perfect for your size of boat. Quick access to either pens with a 10 horse. Good luck!

spinnerbait89,

I'm heading to RW next week and have been trying to figure out the best way to get to the pens without running the boat for 2+ hours round trip. I will be coming from the Chelan area.......what is the best way to get up to the boat launch you're talking about? I know someone has mentioned a primitive boat launch on here before..but I don't know the area well enough at all to be able to track that down.

Should I drive out to Grand Coulee, then up to Nespelem? Or is there a quicker way? I think I can see the pens on Google Maps, but nothing that looks like a boat launch in between them, except for a small dirt road off of Columbia River Road.

Any more details would be greatly appreciated by myself and my 7 year-old son....who just wants to get out there and fish, not drive with dad!
