Got an early start and drove up to this nice alpine lake, 10 miles behind the town of Skykomish.
Blue sky with too much sun for this shallow lake. Water was crystal clear and you could see bottom in 90% of the lake. Now that I have covered this lake a couple of times I can confirm that overall the lake is about 10-15' deep mostly. The opposite side from the trail approach is only about 4' deep. The deepest part is along the side which the trail skirts. Here it is maybe 20-25'.
Anyway, fishing was extremley slow. I mostly dragged woolly buggers, back and olive with a sinking line. There were a few fish surfacing, but not many. The sun was high. This lake has virtually NO cover by any means within the lake, so I would look for the deep area to fish. I was pretty cool that while sitting very still in my tube I saw about 4 seperate trout which were probably 12-14" and seemed fat. Nice to see a fat trout in an alpine lake. But they seemed to care less about my offerings. I did manage one little 7" trout with inflated worm off the bottom.
He was released happily. Discovered a nice stream to come back and wade next time.
