A windy and tough day for us on the Rufus Wood Saturday. Launched around 1030AM and headed up to the lowermost pens with intentions to fish back downstream to the launch. We caught a few at the pens (up to 4 1/2#) but the bites were slow. There was No current while we were there. I was fishing an eighth oz marabou and was able to jig vertically and hit the bottom in 40-50 feet of water. Tried spinners in various configurments and colors, but the fish weren't interested. We have always had difficulty catching fish when there was no current at the pens. Saw 7 or so boats in the pens area. A few anchored up plunking bait and some trolling. While there, we didn't see any fish caught by the boaters. There was two families on the pens structure dropping worms down between the pens and they pulled a few out. We decided to head down stream as the wind had picked up, but by the time we had gotten down to the areas we wanted to fish the waves were whitecapping, and the wind was quite strong. To difficult to maintain boat control along the shoreline, so we called it a day and headed to the launch. Air temp at 58 degrees and surface water temp at 66.Good fishing all, and be sure to watch for the wind increases while out on the water.

hey loui
we were going to come over to RW this weekend, but after checking the weather forecast, decided against it. sounds like they were pretty right on about it for once.. heard they had gusts up to 50mph in areas between spokane and omak. we did some saltwater fishing for silvers near the possession bar and pretty much got blown off the water sunday. guess we'll see what next week end holds.

hi ya Dave, it was a good week-end to be elswhere than on the Wood. It wasn't impossible by any means but had to work pretty hard for a bite. At one point the dust was so thich at the lower end it was like a thick fog. Sorry to hear you were blown off the water.

Thanks for the report. I have 3 teenagers that keep me preoccupied so I live for reports of my favorite body of water. Andy

Howdy afk,
good thing about teenagers is they "DO" grow up. Then you can toss the lines.
Kudos for "Being" preoccupied with the kids, that's what it's all about.
Keep on reading the reports.
