Headed out to Rock Lake last evening.. Launched my 16 foot aluminum boat for the first time at Rock Lake.. I was quite nervous because I've heard that launching here can be brutal, but I had no problems.. Also launched my friends 15 ft aluminum with no problems.. The key to the launch is #1: You cant be afraid to get out there and get wet.. There is a gigantic dropoff not too far off the launch and you need to be aware of where it is.. #2: 4 wheel drive is an absolute must.. There are several rocks around the launch and they are smooth and slick. three of us hit the water at 4:30, got our first first brown at about 5:30 (14") and another close the 6 pm (another 14 incher).. When the sun went down and it was dark, we started getting several hits and we all missed two or three big fish.. we did manage to land one 24" that was around 5 lbs.. The biggest fish of the day and the biggest brown that I personally have ever caught.. we were using susppending Yozuri Minnow plugs in several different colors in about 12 feet or less of water.. My estimation is that the bite really turns on at night in the shallows.. However it's pretty sketchy getting back to the boat launch after dark and even sketchier loading the boat in the dark!! But we had a great time and I caught the biggest fish of my life so all in all it was a great time

Way to go, Rock is a great lake to fish. my wife and I fished it in the spring, and will be going back. there are several places to launch, we put our 21' Northwest Jetboat in without any problems, and I agree the 4 wheel drive is critical. Ken

Hey Ken- I saw your report on Rock Lake earlier in the year and it looks like your wife caught a very nice trout as well. I can tell you that this will be the last big fish I keep from Rock Lake.. I normally release all big trout I catch and keep one or two smaller ones for dinner. When I went to relase this fish my partner about had a heart attack about how good it would be smoked and if I didnt want it, that he would keep it.. So I kept it and took it home and found out she was full of eggs.. I just didn't feel good about taking a fish of that quality out of the system and depriving it of her genetics.. Catch and release for me from now on!
