Launched at the Corps launch above the Chief Joseph Dam around noon. Ran up to the lower most pens. I fixed me up a couple of "Easy Fish Candies", Thanks Panfisher for the idea. Two in Smoke/red flake, and two in smoke/salt & pepper. The red flake were the hot item and the S&P did't produce a bite. Next time it may be different. Anyway. Got to the pens, motored up above and started fishing. There was a slight current when we arrived, so we drifted down toward the pens. Used the electric bow mount to hold us above the pens and fished the current right above the pens. Right off the bat I had one on with the modified tube jig. Fought it around and finally got it to the boat, and Cindy put the net under him. Nice 10# 15oz Fatboy. In the live well it went. Fished for 15 min or so and cindy was hooked up with a nice one. Cindy never got it up where we could see it before it came off. I was getting bites, but the fish were biting so lightly it was hard to get a solid hook-up. We had several good ones on, but only got two fish to the net today. The other one weighed in at 8# 6oz, so not a bad day on the water. I hooked fish on the B-2 Squid, but couldn't keep them on. Cindy was having trouble getting hits on her usual offerings today also. There were some kids fishing off the pen runways with bait, and they hooked up with some, but overall a slow bite for us.The current died, and with still water the bite dropped off. We headed back down river with 19 plus pounds of fish, and called it a day. There were a couple other boats trolling, and one of the boats caught fish using the fly behind a wigglefin set-up.
Water temp was 42 degrees, air temp mid 30s, and scattered showers today. Nice way to start the new year.
Tight lines, dry feet, and warm hands.

Things got to get better for the bank fishing at Chief Joe, Malottguy. But as you say it sure is nice to be out and a bonus when we run in to friends. Wishing you luck on your outings.

Thank you Steve (schatzi442), when I fish the lower most pens, I put in on the lower end by the Chief Joseph Dam. It's approx 25-30 miles from the corps launch up to the lower pens.
If I'm going to fish the upper pens, I will drive over to Coulee Dam and launch at Seaton's Grove. It is approx 10-12 mles down stream from the launch to the first set of pens, and a couple more miles down river to the middle (second) set of pens. Good fishing in all those areas, although some days are better than others. Hope this helps.
