First, many thanks to Mike Carey, Mark Maderos, and BigBass Dez for their superb video on winter fishing for smallmouth on Lake Washington. Without their video, I would have remained a warm weather fisherman and missed out on some wonderful fishing opportunities. Thanks, guys!
I tried out the rev rig this Sunday for the first time using a small, jointed, floating Rapala and trolled it slowly near the bottom using my kayak to keep a slow but steady speed. The depth was between 25 and 60 feet but I am not sure because I have no electronics on the kayak. I launched at 3:00pm from Mercer Island just south of I-90 and paddled slowly south along Mercer Island's eastern shore about 50 to 150 yards from the shore.
It was cold, raining off and on, and getting dark, so I could only fish for about 1 1/2 hours. 2 fish bit but I only landed one - see picture. I held it up to my shoe (size 12) to get an idea for the size of the fish, which I estimated to be between 2 and 3 lbs.
Tight lines.
