I knew I wouldn't be able to hit any rivers last weekend, so I dusted off the ol' Livingston and told my crew (4 boys) that we were goin' fishin' in the morning. The weather had been great, sunny with blue skies. I even checked the forcast and it looked clear......when I went to get everyone up Saturday morning it was drizzling. By the time we got on the water it was raining off and on. We trolled a few lures along the bouy line all the way to the end of the lake with no bites. I marked fish the whole way but none were interested. We got to the end of the lake and I decided to put down the anchor and do a lil still fishin. As soon as we got anchored the wind picked up and the combo of cold and wet go to my 2 littlest guys (5 and 7). So we started to head back. I trolled a rather large rainbow trout colored fly (see the pic) and I thought there would be a possibility of even catching a bass. About half way back to the launch, BAM fish on! First time trollin' a fly....the fish hit it hard! I fought it for a couple of minutes....but ended up loosing it....I'm not sure it was a trout, but whatever it was went about 3 lbs plus! The only reason I know that, is because I have this really nice 8.5 ft fly rod that I took to someone's private which is stocked with 3-6 lb trout and it felt about the same. I never got it closer than 15 ft of the boat....I rated it a 3 because I know if I had more time, I would've brought home a nice meal, plus it's better to have lost a fish then to not have any bites at all....

Fly fishing is a blast... fish feel very different on a fly rod. I'll be you will re-visit that fly and fly rod again!
