Went in the air right in front of me, and forced me to run my pole around the sides of the kayak several times as it kept going underneath me. I almost lost it at the boat due to using too long of a leader (I was using my 7' Ugly stick instead of my 9' AIR IM8 and didn't shorten my leader to compensate). Took me 4-5 attempts to net it, and as soon as it was in the net, the lure popped out of it's mouth.

2/10/2010 6:54:00 PMNice post and great looking fish. The only time I typically fish American is in the off season and that is because of some of the inconsiderate Wake Boarders, etc . You are absolutely correct - noise is a key factor particularly on the south end and is the reason I normally troll with my electric trolling motor . I was on the lake around the Thanksgiving time frame and saw a Fly Fisherman pull in what had to be a 24 inch plus Trout at that end of the lake as well. I got a 14 incher myself but mine was small in comparison. I'm pretty much a Kokanee guy and typically fish the north side of Silcox. I've also done fairly well by the VA Center.

2/10/2010 8:25:00 PMThanks for the nice report. Sounds like you found a nice one. Yah, they're in there and I agree, the best way to catch 'em is very quiet trolling. Me and my stepdad always used to catch the big ones out there in the rowboat. Silent and stealthy. Keep up the good fishin' and good luck out there.

2/10/2010 9:02:00 PMThat fly fisherman, was he fly fishing from a bass boat? That's the guy I first saw bring in a big Trout on American Lake. He told me he caught the biggest trout on the west side of the state on a fly rod in American Lake back in the 90s. 16lbs he said. The one he had that day in November was around 6-7 lbs and probably 26 inches. (He showed it to me at the launch when he was leaving)

2/11/2010 9:48:00 AMWow, sweet looking RB there. Nice job. If you don't mind my asking, what kind/size of flashers do you use? I have thought about using small dodgers in the trout lakes, but thought it might be overkill.
