Started the morning watching the rain while having a cup of joe with cindy, After awhile the skies lightened and a spot or three of sunbeams hit the snow capped hills, and Cindy said, looks like a good day to be on the water. So we loaded up and headed north. We launched from the corps launch above Chief Joseph dam around 1030-1100, and headed up to the pump #one area. Jigged around for several casts, then a nice swirl and hook-up at the boat as Cindy was getting ready to lift her jig out of the water for another cast. The fight was on. The trout made a run under the boat, and out to deeper water, then Slack line, no fish. Lil bugger came off. So Cindy reels in and grabs her other rod, rigged with a plastic minnow, and puts it back in the spot. No takers. After several casts, she trades out rods again, and low and behold, the hook had broken at the bend on the first fish. SO she ties on another 1/16 oz, red hooked jig head, and threads on a couple of "Uncle Walts" smoke and red metal flake mini tubes. After getting them "Perfectly" (in her oppinion) rigged, she casts out and in a couple of casts she is hooked up again. After a nice battle she gets a nice trout boatside, and says she would like to keep this one if I could net it. So in the net it goes. A nice 4# 7oz beauty. But the coolest thing about it is when she went to unhook it, There in the roof of its mouth was the rest of her red hook from her broken jig. She had caught the same fish twice. I ended up with a trout out of the same area that was over 8#, . The next bites were up around pump 3 and across the river from pump 3. Cindy turned loose one around 14-16 inches, but kept another 5 plus pounder in the pump 3 area. On the way back down I hooked into another 5# plus about a quarter mile above pump #1. Lots of casting today, but fish in the brine, and some for the grill tomorrow. We did troll between a couple of the fishing holes using a crocodile, tube jig, and a wooly bugger with a smiley blade (all long lining). Got two hits on the wooly bugger, but no hook ups while trolling.. It was good to catch fish on the lower section of the lake since we haven't been doing too well there in the recent trips. The lower lot was full and several rigs in the upper lot, so maybe there will be several reports coming in. We caught 3 of the trout on the Uncle Walt's mini tube, and the others on a plastic imitation nymph type jig. All the time we were there we didn't see any surface activity, and the fish we caught were in 8-15feet of water. Surface water temp 39* with air temp in the 40s. WOW what a day to be on the water. Tight lines and sharp hooks All.

Hey Lewis, this report is good reading therapy between coats of wax on the kitchen floor.LOL. I'm jealous and yet I'm glad your back into the fish. ( Darren, I think he needs Cindy around to catch fish. I think he only fishes to the level of the competition.) Now if he can just catch the one with the rest of his broken off jig in it!
Lewis, I think you are just going to have to target smaller fish from now on.

Well Andy, there is a bit of unspoken competition when we're out. It's a good thing I'm not a sore loser as she will usually get the first fish if they're biting. She Has a tendency to get a cast or two in before I can get the bow mount going. As she never complains where I put her with my boat control (she refers to it as "Boat Movement"), I can get along with her out fishing me once in a while. LOL By The Way Andy, I came up with an extra pair of Black Mittens after our trip.

Nice fish Loui. How far is pump station #1 from Chief Jo? I have a 15' alum. with a 25 hp and 6 gal tank and I am concerned about running out of gas if it is too far.

Hey dgsmith, Pump #1 is a little less than five miles upriver from Chief Jo. You should easily be able to get upriver eight or ten miles which would put you in the area of pump #3 for a enjoyable FULL day of fishing. Hey dgsmith, I was introduced to RW fishing by a fella who ran a 14 footer with a 40 and a 6 gal tank. He would run up to the pump #3 area with no trouble. You could always take along one of those 2-3 gal extra tanks if you felt the need. As BigD says, Ya could make a day out of it fishing lots of water. If you decide to go, drop me a line and I'd share a few spots with ya. Take care and be well

Hay blufin I am thinking about pulling my 17ft campion over from Everett I am bringing a few black maribou jigs with could you tell me the best place to launch and a good place to start fishing I heard there was a new launch closer to the pens.and any thing else would be a great help thanks Jim
