Another beautifull morning on Eloika without a bite to show for it. Launched at 9am water temp 42. Started off with a lipless crankbait in the middle @ 12' of water. No hits. Slowed down with a variety of Strike King worms and creature baits. From no weight used, to no more than 3/8 ounce. All weedless of course. Dead sticking, to verrrrrry slow retrieve. Sonar showed fish at times in "pockets" down deep, huddled together. Anchored, spent time there. No luck. Basicly, I think I would have had more luck WITH the kitchen sink. Still learning how to catch Bass in cold (below @ 55) water. Like I said, beautifull morning on the lake with the Eagles. Any tips?? Several other boats out. Did'nt notice much action with them either.

if you keep it up you're going to smoke them well before the water gets to 55. my magic number is 45, below that i'm lucky if i catch even one. Eloika is kind of a mystery before it warms up a touch and some of those weeds start to grow in. a few more warm weeks and you'll be out there reeling in chunk after chunk with those same tactics.

Thanks Nik. I guess I'm close to the answer. I'll take your advise and throw more of the same. Goin slower is my problem. Do they have much to do with lizards?? Or the Strike King Iguana that I have been throwing Texas style. Found out that it has a natural tail up floating action when thrown Carolina too. Here in another week or so I will be out there @3 days a week. Cant get enough practice I say.

when the water hits the upper 40s try slow rolling a spinnerbait around shallow laydowns and brush. that lake is loaded with perch and they spawn around then, and for some reason a spinnerbait does the trick during that time. i know a lipless crank is supposed to be the ultimate cold water reaction bait, and i'm sure in most parts of the country it is, but for me up here in the NW a slow rolled spinnerbait in that cold water is money in the bank.
