My daughter gave me the best Christmas present in the world! She gave me a Gas card and a Safeway card and a letter describing what it was all for. The present was to take her fishing for a weekend with just her and I. Well I was finally able to use that gift this last weekend.
She and I drove over to an uncle’s vacation house in Entiat near Chelan and made the hour drive to Rufus Woods to try our hand fishing for those BIG Triploids. We arrived Saturday around 11am(it's tough to get a teenager up early on the weekend) and found a nice spot that still had a fire going from the last folks that were there. I stoked the fire a little and rigged up the first rod with some power bait. I hadn't even set it down in the rod holder yet when WHAM! A big hit. But, the fish had other ideas and spat the hook. :( Got one more strike an hour later but that was it.
Sunday was a bit better. We stopped at a spot a little closer to Chief Joseph that we saw the day before. It looked like there was a good drop off from shore and we could get over the weeds easily. It turned out to be the right choice. My daughter caught a 9+ pound trout! Her personal best.
I had a great time with her and thanked her for the perfect Christmas gift.
