I launched at about 8:30 on sunday morning at coulon park with the thought of maybe catching a fish but really just out to give it a shot. we got to about the island and dropped the cut plug herring down to 40 feet oon the down riggers. wekk we fished there until about noon with one takedown and decided it was time to move. we then took off to the floating bridge and started trolling back toward the launch. right away we saw a fish jump, we also saw fish on the fish finder, but still nothing happening. the person who owns the boat had a rod set up with a brads superbait cut plug and since nothing was happening i asked him if i could see what it looked like in the water, as i was about to bring it back in the boat he said " what the heck send it out there" since we only had three rods out for our 5 guys he figured it would not hurt to have another rod out. then within minutes there was a fish on! not too big about 16 inches but it was on the brads and everyone was pretty stoked about that, then about 5 minutes later one of the down rigger rods goes off and I set the hook on that one and it was jumpin and runnin and turned out to be a 19" cutty, now im feeling kind of bad because i reeled both in and there was a guy from wisconsin with us and we really wanted him to get one. and of course the bite quit after that and i started thinking man we arent going to get one for him, then bam! one of the down rigger rods getss hammmered! line peeling and everything i was yeelin to him go get it! and he grabbed the wrong rod! it was all i could do to keep myself from grabbing the rod but i didn't and he got it and it was the biggest about a 22"! and soon after we decided to call it a day and we reeled one in with a pretty well dead 18" cutthroat that must have been there for a while.
