Just plain beginners luck i guess. My very first time to ever fish this lake.the dock was in so i took my lake net and gl2 spinning rod with 6# p-line floroclear. Using a blue and chrome 3/4 oz cast master with small buck tail. On my 3rd cast i thought i snagged a sunken log! 10' from the dock up came my first tiger muskie. I was shocked never seen one before. Wow i grabed the lake net and relized it was way too small, any way i got his head in the net and started to lift and his head went through it! He wrapped him self in it and on the dock he went.compleatly destoyed the net. After looking at his big mouth, i ran to the truck and got a hook remover.
He was 40" just after i released him the game warden walked down the dock and was surprized as much as me. It 3:30pm and hailing as a big storm was coming in on april fools day. This no april fools joke either. Was there 1/2 hr and went home. Next time i will bring a bigger net and a boat.
Good luck fishead2

Were you fishing at the public launch? You mention a dock, have they put launch docks in at Newman? I hope so. :-)

They installed a dock like they have at Silver lake also. It is on the left side of the ramps by the sign.

I heard about the docks being in and went to Newman to check it out. The docks are fishing docks, aparently not intended for boat use. They will be of no assistance when launching or loading boats. They don't look too casting friendly either, looks like they were designed by a trout fisherman. Throw out some bait and they have nice resting planks to prop your rod up if that's the type of fishing you like to do. Not complaining, just passing on what I saw. Happy fishing

Thanks for the feedback guys, I was hoping WDFW might have installed launch docks too. Glad to hear there are fishing docks, even though I don't use them. Was hoping for launch docks to make launching/recovering there easier like they did at Silver Lake.

HAVE THERE EVER BEEN LAUNCH DOCKS THERE?
HOW IS THE TROUT FISHING IN THIS LAKE?

Not that I know of, that's why I asked when you mentioned fishing from a dock. The fishing dock wasn't there last time I was (8/08). Can't help you on the trout fishing as I've never fished for them there.

I have caught a few trout at this lake. However, I did it by throwing small jigs around docks looking for bass or crappie. I have had people tell me that they catch trout out there, but no particular spots. They are just all around. There is an areator in the big bay directly across the lake from the launch. It's towards the south side of the bay. I have heard that is a good place to get trout but you have to stay a certain distance from it to be legal. Good luck and "Happy Fishing"
