We headed over the pass in hopes of another great trip to Rufus Woods on Friday. Friday evening we got there and the wind was blowing pretty good and we only had a few hours so we launched in between the 2nd and 3rd set of pens and decided to just go anchor up next to the pens. We had one on with a darker colored jointed Rapala but lost it. That was the extent of our luck on Friday.
Saturday morning we had high hopes of cruising down below the pens to troll the banks. We trolled black and olive colored wooly buggers behind a wigglefin for a bit with no luck. Then my buddy switched back to a jointed Rapala and we trolled one or the other or a combination of both 'til about 10 AM with absolutely no luck. We set the anchor for a bit and tried a jig, then a rooster tail, then a super duper and a couple other Rapala's with no luck. We decided to "lower" ourselves to fishing bait for the rest of the afternoon so we ran back up to the upper pens to anchor up and soak some dough. About 10 minutes in to throwing the peach colored power bait with a little corn dip on it I caught this 12 lb 4 oz fish in the picture.
Fishing seamed slow everywhere so we pretty much decided that was what we would do for the rest of the weekend. We ended up catching 9 total between 4 of us on Saturday and about 10 AM Sunday when we decided to pack up. All in all it wasn't a bad trip and I will take a 12 # rainbow any day of the week.
Tight lines to all!!!
