Made it to the lake at 9:00 AM. Used the wrong launch - the first launch out of Sprague on the south side of the lake has a 18" drop-off underwater. Banged the trailer and almost got stuck. Go to the second launch at the State land at the southwest end of the lake.

Trolled Pistol Pete wooley buggers with a spinning flasher in front at anywhere from 15 to 6 feet. Despite the fact that most fish were showing at 12-15 feet deep on the fish finder, our best luck was trolling at 6 feet deep. Used downriggers on two rods to the side and a jet diver on the rod to the rear.

We trolled from 9AM to 3PM and caught two fish. One was very nice, about 23". The other was little, only about 16". Troll slow and shallow.

My prognosis is that there is way too much food in that lake right now. Bugs everywhere, and the birds were all over the lake, too, meaning that the fish have plenty of food and aren't actively and agressively feeding.

Also, the fish tasted horrible - like mud. I think next time I'll drive the extra hour and go to Roosevelt or Rufus. Better fishing and the fish are actually edible.

Interesting re: fish taste. As someone mentioned in another thread (where I asked), he said the fish were filled with snails. A fellow angler had told me fish that feed significantly on snails will taste horrible. Since in the other thread and yours, you both were fishing Sprague Lake, I'm thinking perhaps this comment is true... although Sprague still seems to be a very popular take-home trout fishery.
