I did what I thought was impossible and fished at a lake on the opening weekend and did not catch a single fish! I haven't fished Blue on the Opener in about 8 years after giving up on Jameson after 20 some years. Sat. was really a blow out by the wind, so I only fished for 2-3 hours. Guy, down the shore from me picked up a nice 20" and several 12-14 inchers. Few shore fishermen were catching anything that I saw.
Sunday was calm almost all day and I fished 3-4 different spots. I could hear on my radio that people in boats were doing very well and the lake looked like a Sat. opener with almost solid boats covering the south end of the lake. I fished the east shore for several hours in various spots with no luck. Few light bites using marshmallow and worm. Switched over to powerbait for awhile and cast a home made spinner that's usually a sure thing. NOTHING!
I gave up late in the afternoon and drove over to Park Lk to see how people were doing there. About the same thing. Very slow to few fish caught. Reports from Vic Meyer and Deep Lk were about the same. Couple old guys I talked too said it was the worse fishing they've ever seen.
Fished about 5 hours Monday under mostly cloudy skies with calm conditions. About ditto for Sunday with few shore anglers catching anything. I tried 4-5 spots on both sides of the lake and talked to quite a few people and they all reported poor fishing. I did get in plenty of reading time, camping was great, and I worked on my tan, so it wasn't all bad. :)
