I had not fished for Kokanee for 20 years, so before I went out by myself I decided to go out with a guide and find out how the Pros do it( highly recommended). My wife and I hit the water at 4:00 PM( the guide is a teacher at a Stevens School). The weather was cold but not much wind.
Within an hour-cooler-10 to 15 mph- rain and hail-GOOD NEWS we had 20 to 30 hits and landed ten beautiful 10 to 15 inch Kokanee.

What I learned- you don't need down riggers to catch Kokanee. John uses leaded line with two colors out-wedding rings- small 4/0 blade about 4' above the wedding ring. He uses a small treble hook with maggots and/or corn, both worked- Maggots stay on better. The leaded line is so much easier and faster than down riggers. Thanks John we had a great time. See you on the lake when the weather warms up!!

One thing to take into consideration when trolling leadcore VS downriggers is the length of line that you have out in the water. With areas (such as stevens) that can become extremely crowded at times (especially weekends) running out that much line spells disaster in the form of tangling with other anglers. Just a heads up. Some people get really heated over tangles too which sucks but it is a reality of a busy troll fishery, just be patient and pay extra special close attention to the amount of line you have out and the trajectory of your and other anglers trolls.
