Had the day off so Cindy and I headed up to Rufus. Launched at the Corps launch at Chief Joe around 0945, and since it was so nice we headed up to the lower pens. Several boats in the area of the pens, some trolling, some plunking, and some casting. We hit our usual spots, and picked up several hits, brought several to the boat, and C&R them. The trout were running 2-4 pounds, but I had hopes for a big one to lay on the BBQ grill. It wasn't to be. I caught one native RB about 16-18 inches and he was released to grow bigger and fight another day. We were using single barbless hooked jigs in the 1/16 & 1/8 oz size. I lost two trout on the B-2 Squid, and landed a couple on a Cabelas soft bait in brown with black specks. Cindy boated one that weighed in at 9 pounds, caught on a dark colored jig, and we headed back down stream. Fished around the pump #3 without a bite, so went on down to the pump #1 area. I got a couple hits, but no hookup. Cindy nabbed another 3# 12 oz one, so we called it a day, and came on in. Water temp ranged 46* - 48*, with winds at times. We didn't see any other fish caught today, and the boaters we spoke with hadn't had any luck for a while. Even though it was slow, it was great to be able to get out on the water. It does a body ( and mind) Good.
