I got on the lake at about 9:00am. The water temp was 60° at the surface and 56° at 20"

There were 3 hatches coming off as I entered the water. A sparse hatch of very large Mayflies (size 10 at least!), a dark brown chironomid and a few damsels.

I began with a size 12 Stillwater Nymph (peacock green with a light green back/tail) on sinking line. I began catching fish right at the launch and it continued for most of the day. I think I caught all of the recently planted Tigers at least once!! At least it seemed that way. I caught over 25 fish in 3 hours with all but 3 being recent planters (about 9 to 10"). The three larger ones were holdovers and averaged 16" or so. I did hook one nice (around 18") Brookie that came loose at the net. In addition to the trout I was also catching a lot of pumpkin seeds. I haven't seen this many since they rehabed the lake 10 years ago.

There were really no slow periods and I didn't change flies all day.

Tight Lines!

You're the master of Fish lake, Rooscooter. I'm gonna have to get my kayak out onto that lake in order to fully take advantage. Any size to the pumpkinseeds? I caught a small one the other day 'bout 5". I suppose they're not gonna get bigger if there's no selective harvest; Haven't heard of anyone bringing home panfish from Fish Lake.

I fish this lake a lot and have learned a few of its secrets. I've had a lot of good days on Fish Lake........and a few bad ones as well.

The Pumpkinseeds were all about the same size (5" or so) and very well fed. I can't say that for the Tiger Trout though. The ones I caught were very skinny and didn't put up much of a fight. I think it's about time to "rehab" this lake again. There are very few holdovers this year and I the Pumpkinseeds are taking over.

So.... Tiger Musky?... How 'bout Walleye instead? Just kidding... But what's gonna eat pumpkinseeds and why aren't there any holdovers? All the tigers fished out or died? How come they don't put other types of trout here?

This is a bit off-subject but......I really want to take my son out fishing and last summer they had TONS of bluegill and dockfish out there and was wondering if they are back out there yet? I just want my son to have a good time and with those little buggers it makes fishing fun for the little guys! Good fishing by the way!

LOL, pumpkinseeds seldom if ever get over 5". If you catch one much bigger, you have a monster "seed". They provide great food for the tiger trout, and that alone is probably the main reason you did not catch the hold over tigers. Until the "seeds" spawn, the planted tigers will need to compete with everything else for food, and they don't start to bulk up much at that size anyway. It is quite normal for the baby tigers to be pretty long and skinny right now. After the "seeds" spawn and hatch, then look out. As for the larger/holdover tigers, they will be inhaling the last two year pumpkinseed year class.
