With this wonderful November weather I and a buddy decided to give Rufus Woods a shot. We started quite a bit later than we would have liked, mostly because of the time it took us to drive from the Ellensburg area.
We launched at Seatons Grove and noticed that the water looked a little on the low side. We weren't sure what this would do to the Walleye bite but we felt it probably wouldn't help. We fished the area adjacent to the launch, but didn't fair well so we moved down river, taking our time and watching the abundant wildlife. we saw a lone angler working a big eddy from a Lund. Stopping we inquired about the bite. Apparently he was getting a few around 30' - 60', by putting the bait right in front of the fish. We moved up the river some and managed one keeper. The lone angler netted his last pulled out. Then the bite got even slower. We went as far down the net pens with no luck , well at least the day and the scenery was rewarding enough.
Heading back we fished the eddy again. We noticed a lot of activity on the top, well they weren't Walleye, but what the hell. We managed some nice rainbows pulling flies behind flashers, then headed in.
The water level had dropped even further, explaining probably the walleye lockjaw.
